Payment Monitoring
Evaluation Template

A practical framework for evaluating payment monitoring and dispute intelligence solutions. Free, ungated, and ready to use.

What this covers

Six categories. One framework.

Use these questions to evaluate any payment monitoring solution — including ours. We built this template because we believe informed buyers make better decisions.

Monitoring & Analytics

Real-time data, dashboards, and alerting capabilities

Dispute Intelligence

Scoring, recommendations, and evidence automation

Compliance

Card network program tracking and reporting

Security & Data

Encryption, access models, and compliance certifications

Why this matters

Most evaluations miss what matters.

Choosing a payment monitoring solution is a consequential decision. Most merchants evaluate based on demos and pricing alone — missing critical questions about data access, compliance coverage, dispute intelligence methodology, and security architecture. This template gives you a structured framework to ask the right questions and compare solutions objectively.

01

Payment Monitoring & Analytics

The foundation of any payment monitoring solution is its ability to surface the metrics that matter — dispute rates, fraud rates, authorization rates, and volume trends — in a way that enables fast decision-making.

Does the platform provide real-time monitoring, or does it rely on batch processing?
Real-time means sub-minute data freshness. Batch means daily or hourly updates.
Which metrics are tracked out of the box? (dispute rate, fraud rate, auth rate, decline rate, volume)
How many alert channels are supported? (email, SMS, Slack, in-app, webhook)
Can alert thresholds be customised per metric and per MID?
Does the dashboard support multi-MID views and cross-account comparison?
Is historical trend data available? How far back?
Can the platform detect anomalies automatically (volume spikes, decline surges, card testing)?
How Cell Pulse answers this

Real-time webhook processing with sub-second latency. Tracks dispute rate, fraud rate, auth rate, decline rate, and volume. Five alert channels (email, SMS, Slack, in-app, webhook). Custom thresholds per metric. Multi-MID support with account switcher. Card testing detection and anomaly detection built in.

02

Dispute Intelligence & Management

Beyond monitoring, dispute intelligence tells you which disputes are worth fighting and which aren't — saving time and maximising recovery.

Does the platform provide win probability scoring for each dispute?
A score should be based on multiple signals, not just reason code.
Is there an expected value (EV) calculator that factors in costs?
Does it provide FIGHT / ACCEPT / PREVENT recommendations?
Can the system automate evidence extraction and compilation?
Does the scoring model learn from outcomes and recalibrate over time?
Is the scoring methodology transparent, or is it a black box?
Are there per-dispute fees, or is it included in the subscription?
How Cell Defender answers this

Transparent 10-factor scoring model with win probability and expected value for every dispute. FIGHT/ACCEPT/PREVENT recommendations. Automated evidence extraction. Outcome learning with incremental recalibration. No per-dispute fees — included in the Business plan ($399/mo).

03

Compliance Monitoring

Card network monitoring programs (VAMP, ECM, EFM) carry escalating fines. Your platform should track your exposure and alert you before you breach thresholds.

Which card network monitoring programs does the platform track?
At minimum: Visa VAMP, Mastercard ECM/HECM, Mastercard EFM.
Does it calculate program-specific metrics using the correct methodology?
Are there alerts for approaching program thresholds (not just breaching them)?
Does it provide guidance on remediation strategies?
Is compliance reporting available at the MID level for multi-MID merchants?
How quickly does the platform reflect updated card network program rules?
How Cell Pulse answers this

Tracks Visa VAMP, Mastercard ECM/HECM, and EFM with correct program-specific methodology. Predictive alerts fire before thresholds are breached. MID-level compliance views. Program rules updated within days of network announcements.

04

Security & Data Protection

You're trusting a platform with access to your payment data. The security architecture and access model matter as much as the features.

What access model does the platform use? (read-only, read-write, full access)
Read-only is the safest — the platform cannot modify your account or process payments.
What encryption standards are used at rest and in transit?
Does the provider hold SOC 2 Type II certification (or is it in progress)?
Is cardholder data (PAN, CVV) ever stored or processed by the platform?
Is data isolation enforced at the database level (row-level security)?
Can the connection be revoked instantly from the payment processor's dashboard?
How Cell Payments answers this

Read-only Stripe OAuth — we cannot modify your account, process payments, or access card numbers. AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit. SOC 2 Type II in progress (infrastructure providers Vercel and Supabase both maintain SOC 2). Row-level security at the database level. Revocable from Stripe Dashboard in one click.

05

Integration & Onboarding

Time to value matters. How quickly can you go from signup to live monitoring?

How long does initial setup take? (minutes, hours, days, weeks)
Which payment processors are supported?
Currently, most solutions support only one or two processors natively.
Does integration require engineering work, or is it self-service?
Is there an API for custom integrations and data export?
How is historical data handled during onboarding? Is there a backfill?
Is multi-MID / multi-account setup supported from day one?
How Cell Pulse answers this

60-second setup via one-click Stripe OAuth. No code, no integration work. Historical data backfill on first sync. Multi-MID support from day one with account switcher. API access available. Additional processor support on the roadmap.

06

Pricing & Support

Pricing transparency and support quality are often the biggest differentiators between solutions.

Is pricing publicly available and transparent?
Are there per-dispute fees, per-transaction fees, or percentage-of-recovery fees?
Hidden per-unit fees can significantly increase total cost at scale.
What's included in each tier? Are critical features gated behind enterprise plans?
Is there a minimum contract term or cancellation fee?
What level of support is included? (email, chat, dedicated CSM, SLA)
Is there a free trial or demo environment available?
How Cell Payments answers this

Three transparent tiers: Growth ($199/mo), Business ($399/mo), Enterprise ($799/mo). No per-dispute fees, no per-transaction fees. Cancel anytime — no contracts, no cancellation fees. All plans include email support. Enterprise includes dedicated account management.
